About Us

Nestled in the scenic hills of Mandeville, Manchester, deCarteret College stands as a beacon of educational excellence with over a century of distinguished service to Jamaica. Founded in 1919 by the Rt. Rev. Cecil DeCarteret, the sixth Bishop of Jamaica, our institution has evolved from humble beginnings as the Diocesan Preparatory School for Boys into one of Jamaica's premier secondary schools. Our journey of transformation reflects our commitment to growth and inclusivity. In 1960, we transitioned to become deCarteret College, a full secondary school, and by 1976, we had embraced co-educational learning while achieving grant-aided status. This evolution demonstrates our dedication to providing quality education accessible to all students, regardless of gender or background. Today, deCarteret College proudly serves over 1,200 students and is recognized as a leading institution in the Jamaican educational system. Under the visionary leadership of Principal Dr. Prim Lewis and Vice Principal Mr. Marlon Britton, we continue to uphold the values of academic excellence, character development, and community service that have defined us for generations. Our campus at 2 Woodlawn Road serves not just as a place of learning, but as a community where young minds are nurtured, challenged, and prepared to become tomorrow's leaders. We honor our rich heritage while embracing innovation, ensuring that each student receives an education that prepares them for success in an ever-changing world.
